Dr. Rami Heart is a board-certified interventional cardiologist. An interventional cardiologist is so named because it includes intervening on blocked or occluded arteries, known as coronary artery disease and peripheral arterial disease, in order to restore blood flow to save lives.
“I enjoy my work immensely, but I only want to do these procedures when I have to,” says Dr. Heart. I counsel my patients that, though I’m able to use sophisticated tools to open blockages in their arteries, I cannot 'reset the clock' with procedures. It is not the way to manage your heart health.

Dr. Heart on Prevention

“I tell my patients that I can resolve the mechanical obstruction, but the heart disease process that led to the build-up of cholesterol and plaque is unaltered by these interventions. This is where lifestyle and diet come in to play. This is what I preach on a daily basis, because lowering your blood pressure and managing your heart health really is in your control.

I really do believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. My goal is to keep my patients from needing my abilities as an interventionalist whenever possible. I urge all my patients to make good dietary choices, including eating more plant-based, with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, as part of the My Best Heart recommendations – part of their prevention program. This means avoiding processed meat and excessive red meat and including only healthy fats. These three principals, together with avoiding processed and prepared foods and including dark greens in their diet (including My Best Heart’s Red Spinach supplement) will go a long way, especially when you add in cutting back salt intake as well.

Most people know that good dietary choices are part of a strategy for achieving good health, they just need a little help. And a good diet is much more effective when coupled with an overall healthy, active lifestyle.

Regular exercise and stretching, smart diet and supplement choices and adequate sleep are essential components for achieving optimal cardiovascular health.
